Homemade Iced Coffee Recipe (Or Starbucks Bottled Frappuccinos)
Recently, my husband’s employer installed a super cool kind of self-serve snack bar.
It’s kinda convenient, although the problem is my husband loves sweetened iced coffee drinks.
So, naturally, he started bringing home those bottled Starbucks drinks every day…
… and at $2.50 a pop it started to make a little noise in the wallet.
So one day we were talking about them…
In the discussion it was uncovered that he didn’t particularly adore THAT specific brand (he also likes Java Monster) but he just wants a sweetened creamy cold coffee drink.
And… what if I made some for him? I’d just need to make up an iced coffee recipe, right?
“Cha-Ching! That would save a TON of moola,” I thought.
So I whipped up a pretty decent substitute and I’m pretty proud of myself. All they are, really, is an extra creamy iced coffee.
I think they taste better than the original. And they are really simple to make!
Though admittedly you do need to pre-make a few of the ingredients… it happens to use some things I generally keep on hand.
So what does it have in it? I used cold brewed coffee concentrate (Toddy), some of my awesome Sweet Vanilla Cream (just half’n'half, sugar & vanilla) and milk.

Yum yum yummy.
Let’s face it… life just looks friendlier with a coffee by your side. (click here to Tweet this!)
And now I can make a week’s worth at a time, keep them in the fridge, and he grabs one on his way out to work. He still loves his hot coffee in the morning but it’s nice for him to have these guys for his drive home or at lunch.
The Creation Process
Step 1 – go make thyself a batch of Toddy (easy).
Step 2 – Go make some Sweet Vanilla Cream (even easier). Or you can also use regular cream for an unsweetened version, add coffee flavoring syrup for a different flavor, etc.
Step 3 – Mix ingredients together. Use a frappuccino bottle if you have one
If you want it to be extra creamy and frothy, you can whip it for a bit in a blender.
Step 4 – Cackle gleefully while rubbing your hands together like any true Mad Scientist. Very important.
P.S. I use one of these little measuring glasses when I make this stuff – makes it go a lot quicker than measuring out 7 tablespoons! If you don’t have one, you should get one… they are super convenient to have on hand (and cheap)!

- 3.5 oz (7 Tbs) Cold Brewed Coffee (Toddy)
- 2 oz (4 Tbs) Sweet Vanilla Cream
- Milk to top
- Into each bottle or 12oz cup, add the Toddy, Cream and milk.
- Stir or shake together until well mixed.
- Chill before serving or serve over ice.
If you prefer to use a different flavor, simply use 2oz (4Tbs) regular cream and approx. 1oz (2 Tbs) of coffee flavoring syrup for your desired flavor.
And of course, you’re welcome

For ours I take one can of sweetened milk, one can of evaporated, 2 tsp each of vanilla & caramel coffee syrup (we get ours at our dollar store). I pour all ingredients in a rubbermade bottle (BPA Free). Fix a large cup of coffee. Then fill a large glass with ice, our coffee over it. Then I add my straw & drink! Yum!
Just reading your recipe makes my mouth water. It looks so yummy. I would definitely try it out and then I’ll tell you how it feels.
I will be truing this. Thank you. B
Hey no problem, thanks for stopping by!
I converted this into a half gallon batch:
4.3 cups milk
2.3 cups toddy
1.3 cups cream
Or, I you want a half gallon other flavor version:
3.5 cups milk
1.3 cups plain cream
2.3 cups coffee flavoring such as Toranni or chocolate syrup
2.3 cups toddy
Thank you for this! Our family road trip is well stocked now.
Wow! You are amazing! That’s great… I hope your trip goes well
I can’t see how it wouldn’t, not with all that yummy iced coffee
Nothing that Starbucks can do to beat homemade recipe! Yay!
What do you suggest for substitution if I want it to be mocchaccino ?
Hey Maria,
Just add some chocolate syrup if you want! I’ve got a decent recipe for homemade over at Uncle Dutch Farms – Click here for the recipe.
