Right, thanks for the tip. My mother also just started making kefir (I think she said she read this post too, I must have linked to your on FB or something), and she said the same as you - she might not bother making yoghurt any more!

Hi Mary,

Sounds like this would be about perfect for you then! I'll send you an email to discuss buying grains - I do have some I can sell you. I'm really finding that kefir with a little homemade fruit syrup and a touch of my sweet vanilla cream makes an excellent workout recovery drink, as well.

I would LOVE to have some way of producing enough income from the blog to buy a good camera. Someone had suggested I do a paypal "camera fund" on the sidebar but I think doing that's kinda weird... maybe I should open an Etsy shop or something.

Hmm, I'm really interested in the kefir grains, too, and I'd get them from you if you are selling/shipping. I have made homemade yogurt regularly at various times in my life- it wasn't hard-- but I seemed to have more problems with dairy in the last few years and haven't had much. Somewhat by accident I had some kefir and found that it doesn't seem to give me the same problems. But I have high standards for my dairy sources, so making it myself would be great. I had no idea it was that easy to make. Glad to see your blog keeping on, maybe your kefir grain business will be your camera fund.

Yeah it's been a big change around here! I loved homemade yogurt but it was a pain to make. This is much easier. A word though - if you want your kids to like it, make sure you do a short ferment... it does get pretty tart!

Well, you have sold me. Some people in our local urban homesteaders group make kefir, and I've even enjoyed drinking some of the water kefir with ginger and lemon, but I hadn't gotten around to thinking about it myself.

But between hearing that it actually colonizes your gut in a way that yoghurt doesn't, AND you don't have to worry about temperature? If I can get my kids to switch over, I may never make yoghurt again! :)
